Moving forward + BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY

Journal Entry: Thu Nov 19, 2009, 11:21 AM

If I had a band, I would cover the Bill Nye song at EVERY performance.

That aside, a progress report. So, I've been working on blender a lot lately. I just finished a base female human mesh that I designed so that I could edit it to suit my character-making needs. Thanks to (Lots of) help over at the Blender Artists forums, I've been able to get it looking almost exactly how I want it to. Someone was kind enough to fix up my loops on the head which I used as a guide to redo it myself. Pretty cool. I'm not going to post that for reasons I'm about to explain, though.

So, I've decided that, even though I've stopped work on CHIMERA, I need something to give myself some focus. Namely, a story. The thing about CHIMERA is that it benefited me by giving me something that I could work toward. The issue is that it burned out and besides, I wasn't working towards it fast enough.

This time around, I'm going to take it easy and not be so secretive about the story. This is merely something for my own focus, and not something I plan to take commercial (Like CHIMERA.)

So. Here's what I'm thinking right now. I'm liking the idea of an arctic setting, probably in a small kingdom. I'm thinking a cross between high fantasy and steampunk periods. I'm tailoring this one to suit my needs, and my needs right now are: A portfolio, and practice with emotional scenes. Therefore, this is going to be less actiony and more emotional. This way, I can both practice on my animation skills (once I get to that point) and hopefully some powerful concept art.

Of course, I'm not totally leaving out the action. There's still going to be some good old western violence. :)

So that's what I'm working on now. I'm still finalizing most of the setting points in my head, but things are rolling quite smoothly. There's still a few bumps to even out though.

As for that mesh, I'm going to hold off on uploading it until I can, well, put clothes on her. SRSLY. Right now, she's about as anatomically correct as a barbie doll, but I want to have something more presentable before I upload it. (If anyone REALLY wants to see it, here's a link. The latest .blend file is a little out of date though. [link] I've added more loops on the head to make it suitable for animation and redid the hands on my current version.

That's my life right now. I need to upload something.

Oh, I've got just the thing. It'll be up today or tomorrow. :3

Hi! You answered my question on Yahoo Ask the other day about Bamboo tablets!

so is Bamboo Funw hat you used to make your thingsin your gallery?
:iconslightlychaotic:
The only submission in my gallery right now is the joker image, which was basically a speed painting to test out how well the tablet worked for me. [link] However, using the regular Bamboo (the only difference really being size) I made these: [link] and some brushes that can be used with photoshop: [link]

The only reason I haven't really submitted more is because I've been unhappy with the initial sketches, and besides, I've really been focusing on 3D modelling, which doesn't require a lot of tablet usage.
